The Intouchables Review

The Intouchables Review:

One day my friend and I could not think of a film to see. When we came around the title The Intouchables, we took a chance. It was a masterpiece. This film was very limited, but once it got more attention, it opened more in limited theaters.

The film is funny, but mainly a drama. It takes place in France and is subtitled. Philippe (played by Francois Cluzet) is a quadriplegic man who gets hurt in a paragliding accident. He needs a caretaker since he cannot move around or do anything. Then he comes across a man from the projects named Driss (played by Omar Sy). They start building a friendship and start to learn each others background. It becomes serious and so engrossing that you do not want to take your eyes off.

The Intouchables dragged at the beginning at first. However, every moment in the film had lighting where the lighting would darken in dark scenes and lighten in scenes where it is joyful. However, most friendship movies have not been subtitled. Overall though the film had a good plot line, two good actors, and the right ending. Later on this year, depending on its press it can get some Oscar buzz. I would give the film a solid four stars.

Stay tuned for more reviews!

The Green Lantern Review

From an actor that normally does comedy films to a comedy/action movie. The Green Lantern was an action-packed thriller but also had quotes that made me laugh. I mean I have enjoyed superhero movies but this one was not advertised right but in the end I enjoyed it.

The Green Lantern is about one man named Hal Jordan (Reynolds) who receives a ring from an alien that tells him he is the chosen one. The ring turns him into a green superhero and he must fight to survive the terrors that the alien people tell him must be stopped. The film is action packed and enthralling throughout. I saw it in 2D and still enjoyed it.

Tarek's Top two limited release films

1. The Motorcycle Diaries--Two friends studying medical school decide to travel all across Mexico on an old motorcycle to see what all of Mexico really is. They have quite a bit of problems on the way such as money, food supply, and the main character Fuser (Gael Garcia Bernal) who has bad lungs although he was lucky that, that got him out of the war. The film is enthralling, you'll wonder what happens in the end.
2. The Lookout--The story of a boy named Christopher (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) who has suffered for four years after getting in a car accident suffering brain damage. In order for him to get through the day he has to write in his journal. Although he has a rommate named Lewis (Jeff Daniels) who helps him with his struggles. With his years of continuing school he works as a bank janitor until suspicious people who appear to be bank robbers tell him they want him to rob the bank and he agrees. He agrees because of how they tell him "whoever has the money has the power." They tell him that his job is "the lookout" which is where he has to watch to make sure they are not being followed. The film is suspenseful but both interesting at the same time.

127 Hours Review

You will be blown away! 127 Hours is one of the best Danny Boyle films around. It is brilliant, riveting, and jaw-dropping. You will be inspired and astonished by the true story of Aron Ralston. James Franco is at his best.

127 Hours is about a full time hiker named Aron Ralston (Franco) who goes hiking in the canon until all of a sudden he climbs down a hole out of the middle of no where and a boulder falls on his arm. He tries and tries to get out and survive by using his certain tools and saving water to keep him alive. Although with the days going by he realizes that the only way out is to severe his own arm. Do not miss 127 Hours.

The King's Speech review

From a depressed professor to a brilliant achievement of betraying a man with a speech impediment. The King's Speech is brilliant, inviting, heartfelt, and a historic story. You will laugh, you will cry, and you will not want to leave the theater. It is film that will win some for oscars. Including academy award winner Colin Firth, academy award winner Geoffrey Rush, and best actress Helen Bonham Carter.

The King's Speech is the extraordinary true story of King George VI  (Firth) a gifted king but with one challenge. A speech impediment that he has had for years. With his days of being king he realizes he is going to have to speak in front of audiences more and his embarassment is stuttering. With the help from his wife Queen Elizabeth (Carter) he meets a speech therapist named Lionel Logan (Rush). Within the king's days of going to therapy, Logan is trying to help prepare him every step of the way for his big speech in London. The treatment involves strengthening his diaphragm and constant repeats and motions to help him prevent his stutter. With this help both develop a friendship and become partners. Will the king have the power to speak? Find out in The King's Speech. See it before oscars.
